SXSW Field Notes: A crew of Gigbot Mechanics deployed to the 24th South by Southwest Music Festival. [sxsw.com] We spent a week in not-always-so-warm-and-sunny Austin Texas and had a hell of a time. The Gigbot photo booth covered a good sampling of the masses at the annual music mecca. We covered parties hosted by the venerable music blogs Aquarium Drunkard and My Old Kentucky Blog, as well as mighty fine showcase conjured up by the fine folks at Rhapsody. The latter two events were pulled off right in the mayhem of Austin’s 6th Street by the hard work of the crew at Knuckle Rumbler. Those people know how to party.
The magic behind the photo booth is the mighty Ali Vagnini (a.k.a. Al-Tron 3000/Instant Heat), and the fans and bands we found can be seen in the photo section on Gigbot. If you haven’t put your face into the photo booth you probably should get out and see and be seen at some rock roll. Ali knows how to make you smile, and besides live music is about interaction, with the music, the musicians, and with other fans.
The crew met lots of nice new friends and made mischief with many of our Denver klan who made the journey. Lots of people hugged, and the Donnybrookers, always first to promote bodily displays of affection, were there to capture it for their SXhugfest on Donnybrook.

Our new pal Jody Orsborn (a.ka. DJ Gunslingr) knows how to spin country (I mean real country) hits just as good as she can drink her whisky and she should do both well by the looks of her blog, When You Awake. The Gigbot mechanics were busy and while we saw a lot of music, most of the time I just acted like I saw the shows that a good boy friend of mine Danny de Zayas always seemed to find.

We partied with all kinds of great people and saw tons of great bands who played their hearts out for all of us. Then drank 16 oz’ers of Lone Stars with us. Al-Tron hustled so much she until got blisters on her feet and bought green socks with skulls on them and Sean at his weight in BBQ, and he even got to catch the Broken Social Scene at the Parish, a fine venue one of Gigbot Pro’s clients for marketing and ticketing. We got free jean jackets at a swanky VIP party and the guys from The Knew took my pocket knife and cut the sleeves of of mine to make a sharp looking jean vest.
The Mile Hi Fidelity Music Party did Denver proud, and the Gigbot mechanics all landed one by one on Saturday night at the Official Bloodshot Records Music Showcase and then afterwards tried to eat at every street meat food cart we hadn’t yet tried earlier in the week. Then Sean dropped a kielbasa in my car on the way to Ken’s Donuts and got mustard all over himself and half of the inside of my car. I ate 3 donuts at Ken’s and forgot about it.
